Envisioned by Art Saves Lives Studio & Gallery Founder and fine artist Thomasina DeMaio, in collaboration with photographer Lt. Dwayne Newton (ret.) and dance-theatre artist Jes DeVille, Art Ignites wove a tapestry of intergenerational storytelling, grief work, community art making, and performing arts through three fine art exhibitions celebrating the resiliency and courage of San Francisco Fire Department Spring 2023. Archived as a coffee table book, the event’s portraiture, testimonials and captures of dancers serve to honor local civil servants using the combustion triangle (oxygen, heat, and fuel) as a thematic reference to the city of San Francisco’s historic cycles of collapse, repair, and regeneration. Proceeds from the event and book sales continue to benefit the San Francisco Firefighter Cancer Prevention Foundation.
