BANDALOOP’s Updraft AIR Program is an artistic residency awarded semi-annually, foregrounding a BIPOC artist who resonates with the BANDALOOP ethos and works in site-specific modes, questioning and expanding the possibilities of dance, ecology, place and audience in public outdoor spaces. Updraft AIR is a reciprocal relationship steeped in insight and learning, centering the AIR’s art and inquiry and scaffolding ongoing mutual support after the residency’s completion. Highlights from 2021’s program include exploring the intimacy between humans and trees, creating closeness and integrating the ancient wisdom of Nature into the human lexicon with students from Destiny Arts Center.
